This Week At Faith Oct. 30th – Nov. 6 2016

Fifth Book Bonanza –Sunday Oct 30 & Sunday Nov. 6, 2016

What is a Book Bonanza? A Book Bonanza is an opportunity for everyone in the congregation to enjoy a book exchange. If you have a book or books that you are ready to pass on, please bring them to church and place them on the tables provided in the Narthex. These books then, are there for the taking, before and after service this Sunday and the next Sunday. Anyone can help themselves to the books on the table, whether they have brought in books to share or not. Bring kids’ books as well as adult books, fiction as well as nonfiction, inspirational books, and the classics. Please do not bring encyclopedias and text books. Any books that have not found a new home will be delivered to the Fire Hall to be donated to the Children’s Hospital Book drive. The Book Bonanza will again be hosted by Book Club members.

Circles for Reconciliation

As a consequence of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Dr. Raymond Currie, a former professor of Sociology at the University of Manitoba, in partnership with Indigenous community members is organizing Circles for Reconciliation to further dialog and understanding between indigenous and non-indigenous people. These Circles are to have 10 members each, half of them indigenous and half non-indigenous. They will meet for 10 sessions to discuss a variety of pre-determined subjects such as Reconciliation, Public Opinion, Meaning of Land for Indigenous People, the Pass system, etc. Each session will last for 75 minutes and will include indigenous customs and cultural formats.

Faith Lutheran has been invited (with the approval of Council and the endorsement of the ELCIC) to organize and host a Circle for Reconciliation and we are inviting people to let us know of their interest in participating in such a Circle. We are particularly inviting people of indigenous background (aboriginal, Metis, Inuit or other First Nations) to join this group. If you are or know of anyone who might be interested, please ask them to
contact Orly Friesen jof26@shaw.ca or Pastor Chris pastorchris@faithlc.ca for further information.
