Synod Youth Event

On Sunday, May 4, Community Missions Committee partnered with Deacon Michelle in organizing and hosting the synod-led youth event. Youth and leaders from various congregations gathered and spent time hearing about the different ways the congregation partners with community organizations that are addressing various needs. Committee members shared about how their commitment to these community partnerships is a reflection of their faith and their desire to be witnesses of love and grace. The youth learned about food insecurity, challenges facing newcomers, the need for beds for children in Winnipeg, and the unique ingredients that make chili and sandwiches more nutritious for the homeless community. They helped prepare sandwiches for Street Links, and ended with a brief time of communion followed by sampling the chili that also gets shared with Street Links. In their time of reflection, the youth were touched by the reality and complexity of the needs in their community, and were encouraged by the ways people respond using their various passions and experiences. Thank you to the Community Missions Committee for responding to the invitation to share about this congregation’s passion for those in need.

Discernment for Election of National Bishop

The ELCIC will elect a new National Bishop at the National Convention July 10-13 following the retirement of Bishop Susan Johnson. As part of the discernment process for this election, members of the ELCIC have pre-identified 6 potential candidates who will have biographical information and video interviews posted on the ELCIC website mid-May. Pastor Chris has been nominated as one of these candidates. Election of the National Bishop will take place by customary ecclesiastical ballot during the National Convention.

Women’s Retreat

Luther Village is once again hosting a Women’s retreat June 6-8. We had a wonderful group of ladies attend from Faith for the last 2 years and would like to do the same this year. Carpooling can be arranged. Please contact the church office for information and add your name to the list. Register by May 15th and save $25.00. Our own Michelle Collins is the resource leader this year!

Security cameras

Faith Lutheran Church will be installing security cameras at entrance doors in order to create a safe and secure environment here at the church. The camera is meant to promote safety for church staff, members and friends, and to deter vandalism/theft on building property.
