We are excited to provide information to youth in Grades 6–9 who are participating in this year’s City-Wide Confirmation program. This shared learning experience brings together young people from congregations across Winnipeg to explore Scripture, ask questions, build friendships, and grow in faith alongside one another.

This year, our focus will be The Life of Jesus and the New Testament. Together we’ll discover the story of Jesus through the four Gospels before exploring how the early church carried that story into the world through the rest of the New Testament.

Throughout the year, students will explore questions like:

• Who is Jesus, and why do the Gospels tell his story in four different ways?
• What does it mean to follow Jesus today?
• How did the early church begin, and what can we learn from its struggles and hopes?
• What does it mean to live by grace and be part of God’s mission in the world?

Our sessions will include a variety of learning experiences, including videos, large group conversation, small group discussion, individual reflection, and opportunities to ask questions and explore faith together. Through these different ways of learning, students will engage Scripture, connect with one another, and discover how the New Testament continues to shape our lives as followers of Christ today.

When We Meet

City-Wide Confirmation will meet on Sundays from 2:00–3:30 p.m.

• Six sessions in the fall (Oct. 4-Nov. 22. No class on Oct. 11 or 25. At Gloria Dei)
• Six sessions in the winter (Jan. 31-March 14, 2027. No class on Feb. 14. Location TBD)

Each gathering will include conversation, interactive learning, prayer, and, of course, snacks!

One of the unique gifts of City-Wide Confirmation is that sessions are led by a variety of pastors from across the city. Students have the opportunity to experience different teaching styles, hear different perspectives, and build relationships with leaders and peers from other congregations while discovering the shared faith that unites us.

How City-Wide Confirmation Fits Your Congregation

City-Wide Confirmation is designed to complement the confirmation ministry of your home congregation.

Because each congregation is responsible for the formation that leads to the Rite of Confirmation, participation in these classes should be understood as one part of the ongoing confirmation journey that each student shares with their pastor and congregation.

Many congregations will continue to offer additional opportunities for worship, service, mentoring, retreats, fellowship, or confirmation conversations throughout the year. Your pastor will help you understand how City-Wide Confirmation fits within your congregation’s overall confirmation process.
