How you can help wildfire evacuees

With thousands of people from Manitoba evacuated from their homes due to wildfires, we want to help. The elderly and the very young are most affected. You can help by donating baby formula (e.g. Enfalac), diapers of any size from newborn to toddler; or adult disposable underwear (e.g. Depends). Please leave your donated items in the entry on the table marked Wildfire Evacuees Support.

You can also consider a financial donation to the Canadian Red Cross, earmarked for Manitoba. Until June 27, all donations will be matched by the Province of Manitoba and the Government of Canada, so for example, every $1 donated becomes $3.

Discernment for Election of National Bishop

The ELCIC will elect a new National Bishop at the National Convention July 10-13 following the retirement of Bishop Susan Johnson. As part of the discernment process for this election, members of the ELCIC have pre-identified 6 potential candidates who will have biographical information and video interviews posted on the ELCIC website mid-May. Pastor Chris has been nominated as one of these candidates. Election of the National Bishop will take place by customary ecclesiastical ballot during the National Convention.

Youth Money wall Fundraiser

Please check out the wall in the Narthex that is covered with envelopes. Our Youth have set up the wall to fundraise for the trip to the Canadian Lutheran Anglican Youth gathering being held in Saskatoon this August. All you have to do is choose an envelope and donate the amount that is indicated on the envelope and place it in the green basket. Don’t forget to put your name on the envelope for a donation tax receipt. Additionally, please move the bus along the posterboard to symbolize your contribution that will help the youth experience a journey of a lifetime! This fundraiser will be on until Sunday June 15th.

Pastor’s Discretionary Fund

We are looking for donations in support of the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund. This fund is used in support of individuals and families with unanticipated needs, including gift cards for groceries or household goods, bus tickets, and help with unexpected bills such as medical expenses or utilities. As costs have risen over past years there are increased demands for this kind of help and the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund has become depleted. To donate to this fund mark donations “Pastor’s Discretionary Fund” or contact the Church Office. Many thanks for your continued support!

Committee members needed

We are seeking new members to sit on the Property Committee. This committee oversees the maintenance of the physical infrastructure of the Church in support of the mission and to enable the ministry and safety needs of our congregational members and guests are met. Possessing minimal physical attributes to assist with general facility maintenance and setting up for events/meetings would be an asset. Being able to participate as a team member would be an important quality.

Security cameras

Faith Lutheran Church will be installing security cameras at entrance doors in order to create a safe and secure environment here at the church. The camera is meant to promote safety for church staff, members and friends, and to deter vandalism/theft on building property.

June Book exchange

Book exchange on June 15 and 22. What is a book exchange? On June 15 and 22 books will be on display in the narthex. Take one or several books for your summer reading. You do not have to bring a book to take books. We are looking for books (no magazines ) for adults and children. We also accept books on June 15 and 22.

Thank you for your participation.
